Introduction

LED bulbs are an energy efficient alternative to conventional light bulbs. Traditional incandescent bulbs work when an electric current is passed through an extremely thin filament which becomes very hot, thereby emitting light. From all the electricity that goes through the filament, only a small proportion of it emits off light. Approximately 90% of it is wasted as heat, so these bulbs are grossly inefficient and waste electricity.

LED bulbs are far more efficient than traditional light bulbs, which give off most of their energy as heat. LEDs use 90% less energy which is also more efficient than CFLs. One LED bulb can lasts as long as eight CFLs and uses a quarter of the energy over its lifetime.
